FREE HIV Testing

The purpose of PEER’s free HIV testing is to fund the provision of free HIV testing to residents in Eagle County. The HIV tests are administered by local medical experts who offer resources, guide patients to counseling, and ensure potential treatment if results are positive.

Eagle County is a rural resort community. Given our community's dynamics, the testing program caters to and is most utilized by the young adult population and the Latino community.

In the United States, those aged 13 to 24 constitute over a quarter of the 50,000 new HIV infections annually. Alarmingly, 60% of these young individuals are unaware of their infection status, as cited by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.

The National Institute of Health has pointed out that community-driven initiatives aimed at enhancing accessibility to voluntary HIV testing and counseling can amplify the number of individuals cognizant of their HIV status. Such initiatives also encourage safer sexual behaviors, especially among high-risk groups. A primary objective of PEER’s Free HIV Testing funding initiative is to elevate community awareness about behaviors that elevate the risk for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
